Happy week! Happy Monday!
Here is today´s VO Tip!
Your job as a Voice Over actor is to perform to the best of your abilities. When you are hired, from your demo or after an audition, you will not get a second chance after leaving the studio. You are expected to deliver a professional and masterful interpretation after only a short read-through. Usually, it should take 2 or 3 takes to get the job done.
Sometimes the producer or director completely changes the script after hearing it for the first time, and you need to be able to adapt quickly and deliver exactly what the director needs.
The best way of managing these changes is to read out loud all the time so you have a lot of practice! Good luck!
DYLAN BRUNO records VO for Chevy at Elite.
We had another great actor in our studio today! We had the pleasure of recording an ISDN session with Dylan Bruno, who did six VO commercials for Chevrolet.
He portrayed FBI agent Colby Granger in the CBS series Numb3rs and also disgraced former Army Ranger, Jason Paul Dean in fellow CBS series NCIS. He has also done Voice Overs for Bud Light, Bacardi, Sony and Discovery Channel.
He was visiting Miami while filming a Reality Show with his friend, Chef Bun Lai about hunting invasive species and cooking them. We hope this great actor visits us more often!
Nashville star Alexa Peña-Vega ADR´s here!
November is going to bring us a lot of celebrities! This time we had the pleasure of working with the beautiful and very talented Alexa-Peña Vega who visited us with her husband Carlos Peña to record an ADR session for the series Nashville were she plays Kiley.
She is best known for her role as Carmen Cortez in the Spy Kids film series. Also in 2009, she starred as the title character Ruby Gallagher in the ABC Family series Ruby & The Rockits and in 2013, Vega finished work on the films 23 Blast, Machete Kills, Bounty Killer, Wicked Blood, The Remaining and The Hunters which will have release dates throughout 2013 and 2014.
Happy November everyone!
Here’s our VO Tip of today!
Once established that we should do Acting with our Voice, the work should appeal to the target audience. We should adapt our voice over to speak to a particular type of person. If you sound too casual a boardroom of people in suits won´t take you seriously for example. However, if the target is teenagers, the language can use some slang and be very casual. Always try to work with the script to appeal to the audience of your specific work.
Has legend Iggy Pop chosen Elite Music Studios as his favorite studio in Miami?

Starting today, we will give you a tip about the art of Voice Over acting every Monday morning!
This is our first VO Tip!
This is a simple way to determine the difference between a simple “voice-over” and a “voice-acting” performance
A Voice-over performance meet one or more of the following:
1) It sounds like you a reading a script.
2) The objective is to “sell” something.
3) The content tends to be loaded with information and no emotional content.
4) The effect of the message is to create “listener tune-out”.
A Voice-Acting performance has ALL of the following characteristics:
1) A character is created and the performer created the feeling of a conversation.
2) The objective is to “tell a story” so the listener relates in an emotional level and to keep the listeners attention.
3) The message is emotional and has a focus.

It is well known that voice-overs for film previews have been almost exclusively performed by men. Don LaFontaine, American voice actor famous for recording more than 5,000 film trailers, and hundred of thousands of TV advertisements, video game trailers, became known for his “In a world….” phrase, he poked fun of his cliche phrase at various events, including the Geico commercial.
In A World, three words genetically, male oriented, and not uttered by a woman in a movie trailer. Until now, where Lake Bell makes her writing-directing debut, as well as leads the cast in…. “In A World” the winner of Best Screenplay at Sundance.
This upcoming movie is all about an actress trying to make it in the voiceover business. Motivated by her father, the king of movie-trailer voice-overs, to pursue her aspirations of becoming a voiceover star with all of the trials and tribulations that come with her career. She sets out to change the voice of a generation.
The title somewhat refers to the intro that begins so many trailers for movies set in the future. The man who has undoubtedly uttered these words more than anyone else was Don LaFontaine, who over the past 25 years cemented his position as the “King of Voice-overs.” Aside from his continuing work in the trailer industry, he has also been the voice of NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and UPN, in addition to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network. Based on contracts signed, he has the distinction of being perhaps the single busiest actor in the history of SAG. In September 1st, 2008, La Fontaine died at the age of 68 following complications from a collapsed lung.
Offering an amusing peek into a seldom-visited corner of showbiz, this movie could kick up some theatrical returns with judicious handling and the help of smartly nurtured word-of-mouth.
In a World opens in limited release on August 9.
